
Hissa NSOLI (D. R. Congo)
Bosomba Hissa Nsoli, whose artistic name is Hissa Nsoli, was born in 1964, in Mbadanka (DRC). Self-taught, he took part in a group of young artists who attended a course of animation for films. He started studying comics in 2000, thank to a stage run by professional comics artists such as Barly Baruti and Eric Warnauts.
His work was selected for the exhibition Matite africane (Bologna, 2002), and he obtained a Mention in the 2003 Africa e Mediterraneo Award with his comic strip Pénitence, scenario by Patrick De Meersman.
His comic strip : L'île aux oiseaux
Guinea, 1999. Two adolescents, Yaguine (aged 14) and
Fodé (aged 15) were stowaways who froze to death on a
Airbus flying from Conakry, Guinea, to Brussels, Belgium,
on 28 July 1999. Their bodies were discovered in the
airplane's rear right-hand wheel bay at Brussels
International Airport. Were they survived they would have
been sent back to Guinea on the first plane. This comics
album face the hard theme of migration and suffering of
African young people, leaving place for hope in a future of
more cooperation between Europe and African countries.
