Thriller, comedy, realistic drawings, fantasy, experimental, historical, topical news: all of these genres are present within African comic strips. Within French-speaking Africa above all, there is a growing interest for this product of African creativity. The level of African comic strip writers is the same as that of their European and American colleagues. Nonetheless, they have to face publishing and promotion problems. The lag in the publishing trade, one of the most crucial cultural industries is damaging African image. We must take into account that the communication market is expanding and those countries which develop their offers (for now the Western countries) benefit big economic and cultural effects.
This Collection of albums is willing to give African Art its international recognition. We chose Comic strips because it is a product of creativity that does not need big supports. We see the development of a cultural industry made by and addressed to the African people as a priority. Thanks to the Africa e Mediterraneo Award for Best Unpublished Comic Strip by African Author, Africa e Mediterraneo selected the best authors, from French, English and Portuguese-speaking Africa, and is now presenting them to African and European audiences.
