Exhibition "Memory of slavery"

Vitry le François 09/19-23/07

Within "Bulles en Champagne", the comics festival of Vitry le François (French town in south-east Marne), the artist Serge Diantantu will expose, from 19 to 23 September at the Orange Bleue, some fifty drawings on the theme "Memory of slavery".

Coming from the Democratic Republic of Congo, the author presents a realistic work on the slave trade. This exhibit is the result of a research with Joseph N'Diaye, curator of the slave house on the Gorée island in Senegal, and author of

the book "Il fut un jour à Gorée…L'esclavage raconté à nos enfants".

The drawings show Africa before the trade, the capture and transatlantic transport, the arrival in America, the work of slaves, the product of it going to Europe and the abolition of the abomination. This exhibition has a pedagogic inclination, for Serge Diantantu, it's not a matter of accusing anyone, the aim is to tell the facts and open our eyes on the past.

The exhibition will be open to the public on saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and every evening (5:30 - 8 p.m.) from 19 to 22 September.
