Deadline for the 2007-2008 edition: : 15 December 2007.

NOTICE

1. Africa e Mediterraneo is launching a competition for best unpublished comic strip. The competition is open to African citizens living in or outside Africa (both North and Sub-Saharan Africa). The competition includes three sections: "free subject", "human rights" and "stories of migration".

2. The "free subject" section allows the author to freely choose the subject (i.e. thriller, fantasy, entertainment, etc.); whilst the section "human rights" limits the narrative subject of the comics to the theme of human rights; the “story of migration” section refers to comics dealing with significant stages within the process of migration (the migration project, the journey, integration, success and failure in the work field).

3. Comics must be original, unpublished and can be in B/W and/or in colour; maximum length is 4 pages, maximum format 35 x 50cm. The technique is open. Works with texts in African languages or in Arab must have a translation in English or French or Portuguese. The authors can send a maximum of 3 comics for each section ("free subject", "human rights" and “stories of migration”). The original artworks, along with the application form and a brief CV, must be sent by post to the following address:

Concorso "Africa e Mediterraneo"
Via Gamberi 4
40037 Sasso Marconi (Bologna) Italia

4. Prizes. A single prize for each category will be awarded. The winner of each section will receive 600 Euros; also, a personal album of 32-48 pages will be published. We will publish 3 albums in all. The deadline for the reception of the artworks is 15th December 2007. The jury will then select the winners for each section, which will be published on the website www.africacomics.net. The best 40 works will be published by Lai-momo Coop and Africa e Mediterraneo Association in a collective catalogue and will be included in an itinerant exhibition that will be dispayed in Italy and Europe. Winners will be invited to attend the opening of the exhibitions.

5. The jury will be made up of contributors to the Africa e Mediterraneo journal and cartoon specialists.

6. There are no charges for participating in the competition.

7. The prize winners will be contacted; all the participants will receive information about the competition via e-mail. The materials sent will be returned on demand, at the author’s own expenses; alternatively they will remain on file at "Africa e Mediterraneo", who reserves the right to publish them and include them in national and international exhibitions.
